ST ANNES' premier seafront dance venue – the Monterey Beach Hotel – hosted a delightful night of Gershwin and Cole Porter classics in aid of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Dancers, music lovers and general nostalgia fans flocked to support this worthy event and to witness the Fylde coast premiere of this new, glamourous musical production, written and completely re-arranged by David Windle.
Immaculately turned out in period costume, the lovely Lynne Fox smouldered her way through one timeless classic after another, starting off with a selection of unforgettable George and Ira Gershwin compositions, such as: S'Wonderful, I Got Rhythm and They Can't Take That Away From Me before turning her attentions to a set of Cole Porter favourites. including It's De-lovely and I've Got You Under My Skin.
The evening was introduced and narrated by Windle, with details of the lives and works of the Gershwins and Cole Porter between the songs.
Lynne Fox is a veteran of the cruise ship circuit as is Dave Windle – who has also been Ken Dodd's Musical Director for a number of years. The other two members of the Panama Trio are drummer Jack Hulme, who has played for everybody in the business from Geraldo to Joe Longthorne and double-bass player Gerry Clayton, who was heavily involved in the Mersey Sound of the 1960s.
A cheque for £710 was handed to Rosemere, which is aiming to raise £600,000 to help with laser guided surgical equipment to enable less invasive cancer operations.
