KIRKHAM'S Carr Hill High is bidding a fond farewell to a former teacher and deputy head who has served the school for more than three decades.
Mick Lofthouse first started in Carr Hill in 1975 and after 34 years serving under all of the school's three headteachers has decided to call it a day.

In that time Mr Lofthouse has taught generations of Kirkham families and seen all manner of comings and goings at the school.

He said: "I think the biggest change is that the school has got a lot bigger, in the size of its campus and the number of pupils. And also the subjects being taught and the options available to students, not only in school, but in the local area.

"I am recognised in Kirkham and that's lovely. Some of the lads I've taught are friends now.
"I've never had any problems with any pupils that I have taught and I have a lot of affiliation and affection with the people of Kirkham and the school."

He added: "It is a sad day but I've had 34 years and I have loved every day. I wish everyone at school the best of luck."

His career began in 1970 in Preston but he moved to Carr Hill five years later as Head of PE. He also enjoyed stints in the history, art and geography departments before becoming Deputy Head in 2000.

Assistant Head Paul Wallace worked alongside Mr Lofthouse for 23 years.
He said: "Mick was a real character who will be well and truly missed throughout Carr Hill. A teacher who had a massive impact on both pupils and teachers.

"He was always a pleasure to work with and was held in great regard.
"Mick worked unbelievably hard for the school and we all wish him a long and happy retirement."
