A TOWN council has banned the use of "electronic devices" at its meetings following the behaviour of a controversial councillor.
Medlar with Wesham Town Council met on Tuesday night and agreed a new standing order.

Town Council clerk Alan Sharples explained that the order prohibits the use of electronic devices for sending or receiving messages or recording proceedings during council or committee meetings without express permission of the mayor or chairman of the meetings.

The Town Council took the step following the actions of Coun Simon Renwick, who represents Wesham, at a previous meeting when he refused to switch off his mobile phone.

The mayor passed a motion of censure at the meeting.

Meanwhile a letter has been sent to the standards committee reporting Coun Renwick for his behaviour. It has come from Medlar with Wesham Town Council councillors.

And a letter from Fylde Borough Council was presented at the meeting regarding allegations that Coun Renwick allegedly "used or allowed the use of his council computer and council internet connection to receive or store obscene pornographic materials".

Coun Renwick has been reported to Fylde Council's standards board by Fylde Borough Council Chief Executive Phil Woodward who submitted the complaint after evidence was supplied to him by officers.

Coun Renwick said he could not attend Tuesday night's Town Council meeting due to family reasons.

He declined to comment on the new standing order regarding the eletronic devices.

Not an Independent Councillor,

This is just another step by the local 'Independent' mafia, sorry I mean councillors, to discredit someone who won't fit in with their way of doing things. It's very obvious that this campaign against Cllr Renwick only started at the time of the County Council elections, to discredit him and promote the cause of the current county councillor. I think this is a disgrace and not in the best interest of democracy.

Wesham Resident,

In response to comment # 3 it must be remembered that it is the Chief Executive of Fylde Borough Council who instigated the investigation into the misuse of Cllr Renwick's Fylde Borough Council owned Laptop Computer. It is inappropriate to describe the Chief Executive of the Borough as part of the 'local mafia'. It may be appropriate, in the interest of democracy, for "Not an Independent Councillor" to retract his comment rather than someone to hit the 'Report Unsuitable' button?
It is Cllr Renwick who has discredited himself by his own actions and the blame can only rest with himself rather than diverting it to others!

Not an Independent Councillor,

Fylde 26/06/2009 13:29:44
Where in the article does it mention a Laptop Computer, obviously Wesham Resident has some inside knowledge. In my comments I was referring to the part of the article which stated "Meanwhile a letter has been sent to the standards committee reporting Coun Renwick for his behaviour. It has come from Medlar with Wesham Town Council councillors" This is the Independent council that in it's regular (only issued before an election) newsletter told how they were reporting Cllr Renwick and made sure we all knew he was the only Party aligned councillor. Fylde Independents are the ones that also put an article in the local press accusing another independent of 'Betrayal' of the people of Fylde by suggesting people vote conservative in the County election. Another example of the arrogance of the 'Mafia'. Don't cross us or we'll all gang up on you...just like a real political party. Independent, what a joke.
