SIMON Nicholl, from Carr Drive, Wesham, has recently completed a 48-hour, 240-mile, cycle ride in aid of the charity 'Help for Heroes'.

Simon, an air traffic controller at Bae Systems Warton, was keen to assist the charity in raising funds for a new swimming pool complex at the Joint Services Rehabilitation Unit at Headley Court. This is the unit which treats our servicemen and women who have been seriously injured in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
Simon originally intended to take part in the 'Great British Heroes Battlefield Ride' through France but this charity ride was already oversubscribed when he made his application.
Undeterred, he planned his own solo and unsupported ride from Wesham to Whitehall.
Simon started his ride at 2.30pm on Thursday 29 May and completed his ride at 2.15pm on Saturday.
He was able to meet the cyclists from the 'Battlefield' tour when they completed their ride at Whitehall the next day. Simon had this to say on his ride:
"Fortunately, I had terrific weather for my ride and had the wind behind me for most of the journey. Apart from getting lost in Hemel Hempstead and a few very close encounters at roundabouts, I had a really good trip.
"Despite feeling the physical effects of the ride, my pain was put firmly into perspective by the very humbling experience of meeting some of the brave patients from Headley Court. These people have made an enormous sacrifice in the service of their country yet they don't seek sympathy.
"Giving them the facilities to help them make the best possible recovery is the very least that they deserve. I would like to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who has sponsored me so far; your money is going to an excellent cause."
Simon's sponsorship has so far raised over £4000 for the charity. The book is still open and, should anyone wish to contribute, this can be easily done on the internet by going to the following link: http://www.justgiving.com/simonnicholl.
