Holiday reward for Kirkham FA Vase heroes
FA VASE heroes Kirkham & Wesham fly out for a well earned rest to Barcelona today (Thursday) in recognition of their Wembley success and for gaining promotion to step five football at the first attempt (writes Howard Jones).
Manager Mick Fuller will accompany his Wembley troops for a four day break to the Spanish resort.
He said: "The players deserve to let their hair down after such a gruelling season.
"Winning at Wembley and seeing so many family and friends from Kirkham & Wesham there was unbelievable.
"It's something that me, the players, and the rest of the management team will remember for the rest of our lives.
"What a day and what memories for us all."
Fuller, though was catching his breath when l caught up with him on
Wednesday afternoon and already turning his thoughts to 2008-09.
"Yes we have to keep our finger on the pulse," he said.
"I'm sure the club will have to strengthen certain positions in the team for next season as we are going to play at a higher level.
"But l'm being fair to everyone here at the moment and will ask them all to come back next season."
One of the first games for the club under their new name of AFC Fylde will be against Blue Square North new boys, Fleetwood Town on Saturday July 19 at Kellamergh Park, while an away day visit to FA Vase semi-finalists Whitley Bay has been confirmed for Saturday August 2.
