FRECKLETON football bosses have saved the day for Fleetwood Town FC.
Fleetwood Town's pre-season friendly - scheduled away at West Lancashire League Blackpool Wren Rovers on Thursday July 10 - has had to be cancelled due to the playing surface at School Road not yet quite being ready for the new season.

Derick Thomas, press officer at Fleetwood Town, said: "Wrens took the regrettable decision late on Friday to give town sufficient time to find alternative opponents."

Freckleton FC of the West Lancashire League, however, stepped in at the eleventh hour and saved the day.

"At the last minute, Freckleton, also of the West Lancs League, have agreed to host Town, on the same day, with a 7.30pm kick at their Bush Lane Ground in the village," added Mr Thomas.

"Town have agreed to send their groundsman to Freckleton to mark out their pitch in time for the fixture."

The 'run out' was important to manager Tony Greenwood, as there is a number of players vying to be part of the set up next season whom he wants to see in match action.

"The change of opposition won't change our plans too much. The key thing is having a run-out before the Blackpool match," said Greenwood.

"We've been back in training for a few sessions now and I'm looking forward to seeing the lads in a more competative setting. We are certainly grateful to Freckleton for stepping in at short notice," added the manager.
