We're off to Wembley!
Twenty-one coachloads of fans, plus many more in cars, will be making the long trip to the south of England on Sunday to support Kirkham and Wesham FC in what is the biggest match in the club's 20-year history – the final of the FA vase against Lowestoft Town.
Manager Mick Fuller, who has led the squad to promotion from the Vodkat League North West Counties League Two and won the Second Division Trophy in the past two weeks alone, is hoping to make it the treble this weekend.
Describing it as a "hectic" end to the season, he has just completed the difficult task of choosing the final 18 players who will go to Wembley from his squad of 25.
Trying to remain calm, he admitted: "At the moment, I'm not over-excited about the day, but that will come. I guess it will hit us on Sunday, around 1.30pm, when we walk out at Wembley."
The local community has got behind the team and is backing the boys to do the two towns proud.
Coun Peter Hardy, a long time supporter, will be among the hundreds of fans setting off from Market Square at 7.45am this Sunday.
"I am going with my wife," he told the Express. "It's a great achievement for the team in its first season in this competition and a great achievement for this town.
Coun Hardy will be rushing back from Wembley after the match because, win or lose, a civic reception is being held for the club on Monday.
Coun Elaine Silverwood, a long-standing supporter of the club, said: "The thought of them playing at Wembley stadium is very exciting and I will be going along to see them in London on Sunday with my family."
The squad will be on an open-top bus, which will be setting off from Market Square, Kirkham, at around 6pm, for a tour of Kirkham and Wesham. This will be followed by a reception, including buffet and drinks, at the community centre in recognition of the club's achievements.
The club has appointed Chris Brown to co-ordinate all ticket and travel sales – contact him on (07515) 997879, call in at the club shop or email shop@afcfylde.co.uk for information.
