A YOUTH was taken to hospital with burns following a chemical incident in rural Fylde last night.
Fire crews from Wesham, Bispham and Fulwood attended the incident on High Street, Elswick, after receiving the emergency call just before 7.15pm.
The youth had come into contact with a skip containing unknown chemicals at, or in the vicinity of the Threlfalls factory, said a spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus to deal with the incident and carried out a decontamination procedure.
A county analyst was called to help to identify the substance which was thought to be printing ink.
The substance was identified as Isothiazolinone.
The youth suffered burns and contamination to his lower limbs from the substance.
He was taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.
