A "Psycho" shower slasher from Liverpool who was admitted to a secure hospital for a horrific attack on a former friend has escaped from psychiatric care.
Carrie McCarten, 21, from Everton, was sent to the hospital last July after admitting breaking into Paige Affelat's home and slashing her while she showered.
Her former friend, whom she thought was seeing her ex-boyfriend, was left needing 100 sti
tches.
At the time Liverpool Crown Court heard the attack was similar to the famous scene in Alfred Hitchcock's classic film.
McCarten vanished from a psychiatric unit at a hospital in Bury, Greater Manchester at 12.30pm on Wednesday.
At the time she was being accompanied to see a dentist in Bury town centre but ran off and has not been in contact since.
On Friday Merseyside Police appealed for information and urged her to get in touch but insisted she should not be approached.
A police spokesman said: "As she has links to the Merseyside area, particularly North Liverpool, it's believed that she may have headed back there.
"Police are currently carrying out enquiries in the area to ensure she is safe and well. Staff at the hospital do not believe she had cash or a mobile phone with her and medical staff are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare.
"Without the appropriate medication, there is a concern that she may become unwell. Without continued treatment, Carrie may become violent and may cause harm to herself or others."
