THERE has been a lot of discussion regarding the proposed building of new homes around Queensway, and the impact of this on drainage, roads, local services and more.
Has anyone considered the fact that a large part of the old DWP site at Moorland Road is due to be demolished, starting in the next few months, and that there will no doubt be a rush to re-develop this land for housing?
The probability that a few thousand new homes will be built on the site seems to have been conveniently forgotten when considering permission for the Queensway development, and we will no doubt eventually end up with both.
Why not restrict new housing to such 'brown-field' sites, rather than paving over the natural soakaways provided by the fields - all that water and more will be forced into the existing drainage systems if new roads, pavements, etc. are built, and chances are they will not cope.
