I FEEL your correspondent RH Corradice's criticism of the landscaping work in Ashton Gardens is premature (Express, Jan 24).
I am a member of the Supporters of Ashton Gardens and attended all of the public consultation meetings regarding the Garden's refurbishment.
During those meetings I was most impressed by the enthusiasm and professionalism of the landscaping consultants Messrs Bertram Hyde.
As part of their work they performed a thorough survey of every single tree in the Gardens and came to the conclusion that many had seeded themselves over the years and many were in poor condition as well.
In other words the Gardens had become somewhat overgrown with trees. As a result of the present work the Gardens are much more open and airy than before whilst retaining a large number of trees.
Bear in mind that this is only the first stage of an ongoing plan for the Gardens which will involve much further planting , including more trees. If your correspondent can be patient I am sure he will be delighted with the outcome .
