A RESIDENT of the Majestic for twenty-five years and friend and fan of Les Dawson for a much longer period I am happy to support a statue of Les, but I feel that the proposed site in the Sunken Gardens north of the pier will not do the slightest justice to Les.
Lonelier and colder than the North Pole, down eight steps from the promenade, regularly covered in slippery sand leading down to great amounts of water after heavy rain. Money 28th still a lot of water about and it hasn't rained in the area for almost a week.
The place that is crying out for it is the square at St. Annes. The smile on Les's face as thousands of people pass by and call, 'Hello Les', would cheer up everyone on even the gloomiest day and re-kindle the laughter that millions of residents and visitors have enjoyed for decades in contrast to the handful of people I see in the Sunken Gardens on even the sunniest day.
Please think again planners.
