Have your say

THIS must have been a moment to remember for young Caroline Pothecary.

Schoolgirl Caroline took centre stage to present a bouquet to Princess Anne at St Annes Pier, in June 1974.

Huge crowds turned out at the pier entrance to see the now Princess Royal, as she arrived at a charity concert in the Pier Pavilion, to celebrate the St Annes Land and Building company’s centenary.

The Moorish-style pavilion was added to the pier in 1895 and had ornate decorations and carvings on walls, ceilings and stage.

The pavilion was destroyed by fire the following month. Forty firemen tackled the blaze, as flames roared into the midnight sky, and could be seen in Preston.

Maybe some Express readers have memories of the gala night – or where Caroline is today?
