WITH residents and visitors invited to have their say on the future of Fairhaven Lake, it’s worth a nostalgic look back at its glorious past.
Fylde Council staff are aiming to produce a masterplan to develop the seafront beauty spot, and are eager to hear views.
Surveys are being mailed to residents and groups, who have until the end of May to tell the council their suggestions for the Lake, which was originally a gift to the town by Lord Ashton, who gave £34,000 to buy the lake in 1926.
The attraction has been popular with generations of youngsters and in its 1950s hey-day, as our pictures show, huge crowds gathered to see exciting water sports such as hydroplane racing and water ski trick shows.
Parks chiefs are said to be looking at every aspect of future activity from boating to water skiing, from tennis to walking, from nature conservation to skateboarding.
They will then draw up their masterplan on how the lake could be developed over the next 10 years.
