LYTHAM St Annes Civic Society has received support from the Green Partnership Award Scheme for Witch Wood.
Witch Wood is the popular woodland footpath which runs from Ansdell to Lytham. It contains a wide variety of plant, animal and birdlife, and the grave of The Witch, a Clifton horse which died in 1888.

The award is funded by a partnership between Lancashire County Council Environment Agency, United Utilities and Fylde Borough Council for voluntary groups who want to make a difference to the area in which they live and work.

Witch Wood project co-ordinator Rob Wilkinson said: "Our team of volunteers has been very busy maintaining and enhancing Witch Wood over the last year. However, a dangerous elm had to be felled by a professional tree surgeon.

"The Green Partnership award was used to partly fund the felling of this tree. One of our volunteers has made seats and a small table out of the felled elm for the benefit of walkers who want to rest awhile. Anyone who would like to join us may telephone me on 727611."
