AN intrepid Lytham man will be at the peak of his endurance later this month when he scoots off on a lofty charity challenge.
Michael Meaney will ride his 1966 Lambretta Silver Special scooter more than 1,000 bone shaking miles to climb Britain's three highest peaks.

And every step of his journey will be there for all to see.

Michael, 43, of St Paul's Avenue, who is married with two children, works for Sandbox, a new initiative from the University of Central Lancashire that is both a creative facilitation space and a digital media R&D lab.

He explained: "We have developed a system at Sandbox where I am using two Nokia N95s on Vodafone network.

"Coupled with solar keyboard, charger and a new phone application, I have a one-man journalist pack.

"Every inch of the journey, I will be 'geo-tagged' and the journey can be followed online at www.metavista.org

"This means that the event should 'live' much more than the standard fundraising event. It could be a fundraising template for the future."

Michael's Scooter Summit Challenge 2008 is in aid of UNICEF. He plans to ride solo, at a top speed of 53mph, from Snowdon in Wales to Scafell in England and on to Ben Nevis in Scotland, climbing each peak.

You can donate money using UNICEF's online funds raiser website www.supportunicef .org.uk/scootersummit or e-mail Michael on michael@ metavista.org for a sponsorship form.

Michael says he expects the trip, starting on July 30, to be "physically wrecking but emotionally soaring".

He said: "Clearly, the needs of the very young in Africa/Ethiopia are acute at present. I have to do something and hopefully the technical add-on will really produce results.

"If this works, I want to have 25 Lambrettas next year and more the year after."
