Mother criticises teachers' strike
A MOTHER has slammed the one day teachers' strike planned for tomorrow.
The woman, who asked not to be fully identified, has two sons at Lytham St Annes High School which will be hit by the strike.
And she has told the school she is keeping the younger boy at home, despite him being due in.
"I have an 11-year-old and a 16-year-old who go to the school," said the woman, called Sara.
"My 11-year-old, half his year are going in tomorrow because half the teachers are on strike and the others are not.
"Those who are going in are being taunted by the other children.
"I've told the school I'm not sending my 11-year-old in tomorrow. I don't agree with it. I think it's disgusting."
She added: "It is not fair on him. They are bullies and if they start taunting him it will kick off.
"My 16-year-old has got big exams in five weeks and he's got the day off which is stupid."
She said she rang the school to complain.
She added: "The teachers who are on strike, why aren't they supervising the ones who have got exams.
"If this is the start of industrial action, the chances are they are going to do it again."
Lancashire County Council has confirmed some Fylde schools will be closed tomorrow.
This will be the first national teachers' strike in 21 years.
The National Union of Teachers, which has some 1,300 members on the Fylde, has called for the national walk-out in a dispute over a below-inflation pay increase of 2.45 per cent.
They will be joined by civil servants from the Public and Commercial Services union, which is furious at its zero per cent pay offer from the Government.
Lancashire County Council has so far confirmed four schools in Fylde and Wyre will be closed.
There is also likely to be disruption in some classes in other schools.
They are Shakespeare Primary School in Fleetwood, Northfold Community Primary School in Thornton, Manor Beach Primary School in Cleveleys, and St Bede's RC High School in Lytham.
In addition, Cardinal Allen RC High School in Fleetwood will be closed with the exception of Year 11 and Hodgson High School in Poulton will be closed except for Years Seven and 11.
Other teaching unions, including the NASUWT, are not supporting the strike.
