A PROCESSION featuring Club Day queens and retinues, circus entertainers, floats from community groups, marching bands and local businesses launched Lytham Club Day on Saturday.
It was yet another day to remember for this historic tradition, as the streets were bathed in colour and a carnival atmosphere swept through the town.
There were a record 88 fancy dress entries in the parade, with hundreds of people walking with decorated floats.
Children and adults roamed the streets in fancy dress and the town came to life with all the hustle and bustle of a traditional club day event.
It was a day enjoyed by young and old alike, with Punch and Judy shows staged throughout the day and a feast of Morris Dancers performing all over town.
A parade of vintage cars headed the main procession before Lytham Rose Queen Katie Ritchie made a short stop at the cenotaph to lay a wreath in remembrance of the dead from the two world wars.
The parade travelled from St Peter's Church, Clifton Drive, past Lytham Hospital and back.
Nine year-old Clifton Primary pupil Katie Ritchie was crowned Rose Queen at Lowther Gardens, where the Mammoth Draw, the Tomes Trophy for visiting queens and the presentation of the trophies to the winning classes also took place.
And the revelry carried on into the evening, with a barn dance and steel bands following the successful event on Saturday.
Alison Newsham, co-organiser of the day, said: "We were delighted at how many schools, churches and individuals took part.
"The parade entries were judged and separated into 15 categories, we had very deserving winners, including the Nursery School category, won by Learning Curve Nursery, dressed as fruits and vegetables for their title, Healthy Eating.
"Others included Clifton Primary, who won the Junior Open with the Jungle Book theme, and St Cuthbert's Church, winning the Junior Church Religious prize.
"Everyone has had a tremendous time, we thought it was going to rain a one point, but it held off."
Mrs Newsham added: "Katie was our Rose Queen this year, for her brilliant attendance at St Cuthbert's Church.
"The parade went on for almost three hours, and although we're tired we thoroughly enjoyed it, and we want to thank everyone involved."
