BUILDERS have moved on to the site of the old Conservative Club in St Annes - and brought an end to the daily parking free-for-all for commuters and shoppers.

Site owners Aldi have confirmed they are tidying up the site which has been labelled ‘worse than an eyesore’ by St Annes Chamber of Trade – but the wait for a starting date on the actual retail store there goes on.

Hand-written signs appeared at the weekend warning motorists parking would no longer be allowed there from Monday – and this week barriers were erected. Just weeks ago, Aldi confirmed to Fylde Council they were extending the planning permission they hold on the land for another three years.

“We are currently undertaking work to tidy the site and erected the sign for health and safety reasons,” an Aldi spokesman said. “We are taking steps to develop the site; this includes our long standing effort to find a suitable development partner.”
