The council there is currently in the midst of a two day hearing to rule on a bid by Third Energy to frack for shale gas at its existing drilling site near the village of Kirby Misperton. A decision is expected on Monday.

Frack Free Lancashire organised a bus from the Fylde to join more than 500 protestors outside the county council offices.

If Councillors grant permission it would give Third Energy the opportunity to carry out the first fracking operations since Cuadrilla at Preese Hall near Blackpool in 2011.

The event also coincided with the fifth anniversary of fracking being halted in the UK, following earth tremors and subsequent problems at the Preese Hall site.

Barbara Richardson from Roseacre Awareness group said: “We are joining our friends in Yorkshire to try and prevent fracking from taking place in our beautiful countryside. It is very clear local communities do not want it and have not been taken in by the government and industry rhetoric. All over the country groups are rising up against this dirty fossil fuel industry.”
