A charity run which raised £70,000 on its debut will be back on St Annes beach this summer – and promises to be even bigger and better.

The Colour Splash event held to mark the 30th anniversary of Trinity Hospice attracted 1,800 runners in July and left Trinity officials delighted with its success.

I don’t think we could ever have predicted such an amazing response to the 2015 event

Now, it has been scheduled to return to the same North Beach course from Starr Gate to St Annes Pier and back on Saturday, July 30, starting at noon - and the places available have been increased to 2,500, with special incentives for those booking early.

Colour Splash entrants are issued with a running number and sponsorship form, as well as pouches of paint, sunglasses and a range of colourful accessories.

Then they simply turn up wearing a white T-shirt, and get ready to colour themselves in.

They can run, jog or walk the course and there will be an increased number of seven paint stations along the course.

Linzi Young, head of fundraising at Trinity and the associated Brian House children’s hospice, said: “We were so proud that Colour Splash made such an impact last time.

“It was a new event to help celebrate our 30th anniversary and really captured everyone’s imagination.

“I don’t think we could ever have predicted such an amazing response to the 2015 event; now the people who did it last time have been telling their friends and family and can’t wait to get involved again.

“Luckily we have been able to increase capacity, and we are arranging for an extra couple of paint stations, so that there’s even more colour to be thrown.

“I’m hoping that we will raise £75,000 at the 2016 event – our social media marketing has only just started but entries are coming in fast.

“It’s touching that so many people want to take part and support their local charity.

“We had competitors aged from seven to 70 last time, but sadly this is one event where we have to say no to the family dog. We don’t think that powder paint and pooches mix too well.”

As well as discounts for family groups, there is a reduced price early registration offer which applies up to January 31 and full details are available from www.trinityhospice.co.uk
