Couple's speed camera appeal for Fylde coast rat-run road

She and her husband Andrew were at home last month when a car crashed through railings and came to stop just inches from their house.

Now, housewife Sharon is calling on Lancashire County Council to install cameras on Anchorsholme Lane to slow down traffic before more serious damage is done.

The incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday September 25, was the second in which a car has ended up in Sharon’s garden.

She said: “The same thing happened six years ago.

“After that we had the railings installed.

“This time they’ve probably stopped the car coming into the house.

“We were in at the time, we just heard an enormous crash.

“We could easily have been sitting in the window of the front room.

“The car could very easily have hit the house.

“We’re on edge sitting there now.”

Police attended the scene and cordoned off the fencing.

Although there is no suggestion speed was a factor in last month’s incident, Sharon is concerned by the way motorists treat the stretch of Anchorsholme Lane close to her home.

She said: “A lot of people around here are talking about it.

“We’ve had the council out and the police.

“They carried out a check to see if it was a concern but people see a police car and slow down.

“The section between the duck pond and Amounderness Way, they are getting up some speed down there.

“It’s not just the cars, there are buses too.

“The houses shake when they go past.”

Lancashire County Council confirmed it was responsible for the stretch of Anchorsholme Lane close to Mrs Wraith’s house.

The authority could not find any specific issues which had been raised.
