Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Pritchard was stopped after she loaded a trolley with £259 of food and alcohol and walked out of Marks and Spencer, Cleveleys, without paying on April 26

She was apprehended outside and it was realised she was responsible for stealing food and drink costing £160 from Marks and Spencer in St Annes, on April 18.

When interviewed Pritchard said she got muddled when she was left alone and her husband had gone outside for a cigarette.

Pritchard’s defence lawyer said his client, who had no previous convictions, suffered from a severe split personality disorder and was on a cocktail of prescribed medication for that.

She was looked after by a doctor at a mental health unit.
