Delighted over response in bid to revamp pool

The group behind proposals to give a new lease of life to a long-disused seafront swimming pool have been delighted with the response to a series of consultation events.

The St Annes Promenade Gardens Friends are working with Fylde Council to transform the pool close to The Island into a modern wet play area and members of the public have been invited to give their views on the way forward as the Friends look to raise an initial £3,300 to allow them to apply for funding for the project once plans are finalised.

Friends chairman Ian Roberts said: “It’s an opportunity to re-discover the paddling pool and make it an exciting place to play with water.

“We’ve had some good support from local residents, businesses and holidaymakers but we really need to know what water play features young people in St Annes would like to have in the paddling pool and our consultation events had an excellent response.

“We’ve had some very positive and encouraging comments plus residents living near the paddling pool took the time to come and give their views on the impact a revamped attraction may have, in terms of increased visitor numbers which would increase car parking issues and noise.

“It was all good natured and we’re very grateful to our hosts for the four consultation events so far – the Pavilion Cafe, Sainsbury’s, YMCA swimming pool and The Island cinema.”

A final consultation will be at the Storytellers Inc bookshop on The Crescent on Tuesday, February 28 from 3.30pm to 5pm.
