Young fundraisers dig deep for orphanage

A cash donation has helped forge a bond of friendship between a Lytham school and a children's home in Kenya.

St Bede’s Catholic High School donated £230 to the Watamu Happy House.

Teacher Clare James and her Year 8 pupils chose the home for the donation,

Elizabeth Gomm, the charity’s voluntary organiser: “We so appreciate the continued love and support we receive from St Bede’s. Every penny will make a difference.”

The Happy House, founded by former Blackpool landlady Sue Hayward, opened in 2010 and is currently home to 80 orphaned, abandoned, abused or neglected children.

It has also added a kindergarten, primary and secondary school attended by all the Happy House kids plus another 80, all from abject poverty, who are on free places in the school.

Other charities to benefit from St Bede’s fund-raising included Cafod, Trinity Hospice, YMCA

Harbour House, Rosemere Cancer Trust, Fylde Food Bank and the MS Society.
