Fylde maestro 15-year-old Elliott Gaston-Ross is through to the national semi-finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.
He emerged victorious against four rivals – all older – in the percussion final shown on BBC Four last Friday and will take his place in the semis on the same channel on May 17.
Five competitors that evening – with the woodwind, keyboard and brass section winners to be revealed over the next three Fridays – will be whittled down to three for the final, to be broadcast live on BBC Four and Radio 3 the following evening.
Elliott, who attends Kirkham Grammar School, watched the percussion final, which was pre-recorded in Cardiff, at home in Ansdell with mum Michaela, dad Liam and elder sister Jodi. Michaela said: “We were so proud and are very much looking forward to the semi-final.”
