Fylde’s In Bloom army has landed another series of awards – just weeks after Lytham was named best in Britain.
Green-fingered citizens made Lytham the Champion of Champions – earning the “most beautiful town in Britain” tag from nationwide In Bloom judges two weeks ago – and now North West In Bloom volunteers have made Fylde the region’s premier In Bloom borough with a staggering 19 more awards.
Gold prizes went to Lytham’s entry in the Best Small Coastal Resort category; Elswick in the Best Village category; Freckleton and Kirkham in Best Town category; Lamaleach Caravan Park in Freckleton; Lytham’s Clifton Arms Hotel; Braxfield Court in the centre of St Annes.
Staining and Wrea Green earned a silver gild in the Best Large Village category.
North West In Bloom judges were so impressed with the efforts of people in Lytham that they have nominated them for next year’s Britain In Bloom Awards once again.
Meg Green, Friends of the Estuary organiser, won North West In Bloom’s Outstanding Achievement award.
Fylde Council leader Coun David Eaves, said: “The entire area was resplendent this summer – something that many visitors remarked upon.
“We know that Lytham, Elswick and Freckleton excelled in the nationwide Britain In Bloom awards earlier this month and gardeners in other towns and villages have now got their well-deserved awards.
“I’d like to thank and congratulate them on behalf of all residents.
“The council’s parks department has played a major part, but there has been a tremendous amount of work carried out by the borough’s amazing army of gardeners and fundraisers in local In Bloom groups. Success on this scale could not have been achieved without everyone’s effort.”
