THE countdown is about to begin to the fourth annual Lytham St Annes St George’s Day Festival.

And the man behind the launch of the festival has urged folk to “paint the town red and white”.

Lytham businessman David Haythornthwaite is excitedly awaiting the five-day festival which starts next Wednesday and wants residents and the business community to really make the event their own.

One feature of the event he’s looking forward to is the St George’s Day Parade and Family Fun Day on Sunday, April 22.

He said: “We are expecting it to be a lot more spectacular this time because we are expecting the parade to be really good.

“We are asking everybody in Lytham to get behind it, mainly getting the shops dressed up and people entering into the spirit of things because it is people that make these things.”

He added that the festival helps to put Lytham St Annes on the map.

He said: “That’s something they should care about because that brings business in, so we do hope they will get behind it and support it.

“Every year we do improve and that’s our aim, anything that’s good takes time.

“You have to build and build on it.

“It’s only our fourth year and we’d like think it’s getting better very year.”

He said the festival provides “fantastic value for money” with the entertainment and quality of food that are both served up.
