A couple of deserving football fans were given the VIP treatment by a local club after winning a competition at their school.
McCauley Hodgson, eight, and Kaylum Palacio-Barrington, six, were treated to a special day with AFC Fylde as the Warton-based team took on Bamber Bridge at the County Ground in Leyland on Monday in the semi-final of the Lancashire Trophy.
The Kirkham pair had been selected to meet the squad by the Coasters after winning a competition at their school, The Willows in Kirkham.
Tom Hutton, director of community development for the Warton-based club said: “We went through a strict selection process.
“The competition was very tough but Kaylum and McCauley shone through, as they had never visited a football stadium before.”
The pair were given an AFC Fylde kit each, the chance to meet Syd the Seagull, the club’s mascot, and a photo opportunity with their favourite player, Sean Cooke.
Tom said: “Both Kaylum and Macauley had a fantastic day with Ryan Chadderley, community development officer and myself, and it was great to see how excited they were both before the match and during the match itself.”
Sharon Barnett, headteacher at the Willows Primary School said: “They were nothing but ecstatic and haven’t stopped talking about their special day. Both children enjoy watching and playing football and couldn’t wait to go onto the pitch with the whole AFC Fylde team.”
The special day for the pair was made even better when AFC Fylde beat their regional rivals 2-0. Anyone interested in a special day can contact Tom on 07739796101 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
