Warton Hall attracted hundreds of visitors when owners David and Nicola Thompson opened its gates for the first time two years ago as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

Two years on, the couple have added features to the gardens of the Georgian hall off Lodge Lane to make it more attractive - and are hoping the open days prove popular again.

To be run from May 6 to 14 inclusive, they will include various art courses as well as a talk by Japanese Garden Society chairman Robert Ketchell, with whom the Thompsons worked closely on the design of the key new features.

The full schedule for the open period, including Mr Ketchell’s involvements, is still being finalised but all money raised will go towards the National Gardens Scheme.

Nicola said: “We were delighted with the response when we opened the gardens for the first time two years ago and have been working hard since to make them even more attractive.

“The bluebell woodland walk proved really popular last time and we hope that will be looking its best by the time we open.

“There are also several new garden art and sculpture installations, while the open days will be the first opportunity for the public to see the extensive renovations of which the Japanese Water Gardens and Japanese Dry Garden are key features.

“It is wonderful that Robert will also be giving a talk after designed our new Japanese features, while the new 2017 sculpture trail will interest gardeners and art lovers alike and there will be plants and garden memorabilia and garden gifts for sale too.”

The 19th century Hall has a rich history, with it first occupant Augustus Wyckham Clifton of the Clifton family of Lytham Hall.

Nicola, who has lived there with David for 12 years, added: “I spend many hours in the garden each day and it is a place of quiet contemplation and meditation.

“Sharing the woodland walk with others and promoting the benefits of art and nature is something close to my heart.”
