The headmaster of Arnold King Edward School is eagerly looking forward to the new challenge of heading a school in Canada.

Jim Keefe will leave AKS in July after steering through the merger of King Edward and Queen Mary School with Blackpool’s Arnold.

“I am very excited about my appointment as Head of School at St John’s Ravenscourt in Winnipeg, but this is obviously tinged with sadness at the thought of leaving our friends here,” he said. “Opportunities such as this come along infrequently in a career and the challenge of moving to a new country is significant but one that I will relish.

“I am very proud of what we have achieved together at AKS and look forward to following the school’s successes in the future. AKS is a marvellous school and I intend to thoroughly enjoy the next two terms. We are a vibrant school community with a great deal to look forward to.”

Local governing body chairman Jerry Wooding said a rigorous national recruitment process would be running over the next few months to find Mr Keefe’s successor.
