The chairman of a long-established Fylde health group is appealing to Express readers for new members – or it faces the threat of closure.

Chris Bradburn, chairman of the Diabetes UK South Fylde Support Group, said if membership numbers don’t improve, the health group, which has provided advice to diabetes sufferers for more than 10 years, will close in June.

He added: “As most of the current committee members, who have served since the group was founded, have now decided to retire, we are in urgent need of new members and thus committee members to enable the group to keep going.

“Otherwise, we are likely to close after the June meeting, which would be a great shame.”

The group, which meets every third Thursday at Fairhaven Methodist Church Hall in Ansdell, attracts between 20 to 40 people at each meeting.

Mr Bradburn said the group provides valuable advice to diabetes sufferers, or those recently diagnosed with the condition.

He added: “Our aim is to give these people support through talking to fellow sufferers, learning from the speakers, and reading the diabetes literature that we provide for them. It costs them nothing to join and attend our group meetings.”

The group’s next meeting is Thursday at 7.30pm with speaker Dr Susan Fairhead, a GP from Cleveleys and member of Blackpool Clinical Commissioning Group.

If you wish to join, call Chris on (01772) 634196.
