THE return of ice skating in Lytham’s main square in the run-up to Christmas has been confirmed.
A rink in the Clifton Square Piazza proved a popular attraction up to two years ago but failed to appear last year after the previous organisers decided to concentrate their attentions elsewhere.
Now, a rink is back – thanks to Lytham’s resident ice professionals, Alexei Kislitsyn and Natalia Pestova, who are installing one of their Wonder Ice synthetic ice rinks on the Piazza.
The Russian ice stars, who have starred in ITV’s Dancing on Ice, Blackpool’s Hot Ice Show and the Royal Variety Performance, plan special events for all the family, such as masterclasses and Skating with Santa sessions.
The rink will be open to the public between December 10 and January 2 from 11am till late every day except Christmas Day. Professionally-qualified coaches will be on hand to offer help and advice.
“We want to invite local schools to join us too,” says Alexei.
“Lots of children have become interested in skating after watching Dancing on Ice and this is a perfect opportunity for them to have a go. There will be special school rates and the school sessions will include 15 minutes of instruction by a qualified coach.”
The synthetic Wonder Ice is eco-friendly, with no need for diesel-powered generators to keep the ice cold, or chemicals.
“It is great to hear the rink will be back this festive season,” said Lytham shopkeeper Marc Whitehead, of Exquisite Shoes.
“It was really missed last year.”
