A JOBS stampede is on at the Island cinema complex in St Annes.
For the new owner has reported a “massive response” to advertised job vacancies at the leisure complex – which remains on track to open next month.
The cinema is seeking to recruit a manager and assistant, plus ushers and cleaners.
Owner, West Midlands-based Paul Jervis, said there had been about 170 applicants in total already.
“We have been absolutely inundated,” he said.
“There’s a lot of people, young and old, who want jobs.”
The businessman, who operates out of Sutton Coldfield, is the site’s new leaseholder.
He already owns three cinemas across the country.
The café, gift shop and fairground at The Island are already open.
He is also seeking talks with Stanley Leisure about the future of the casino.
The lease was assigned in April from Carr Royd Leisure Ltd (in administration) to PDJ Management (Lytham) Ltd.
The new tenant is a subsidiary of C and R Cinemas Ltd.
Mr Jervis, PDJ owner, said: “I plan on reopening the cinema in July and will introduce the latest digital technology and a fifth screen.”
The Island closed in 2009 after its owners decided to pull the plug on its three-screen cinema, bowling alley, amusement arcade and restaurant.
Mr Jervis said the cinema would open in mid to late July with Harry Potter.
