Lancashire recommends... best sweet shops

Here is a list of the top five shops to find sweet treats.

Grandad Jim's, Leyland and Chorley

Based in Chapel Brow, Leyland, and also Cleveland Street, Chorley, Grandad Jim’s stocks hundreds of jars of sweets, from cola cubes and pear drops to sarsaparilla tablets and lollipops.

There is also a special fudge counter and a chocolate corner, providing a variety of choice for the sweet-toothed.

The business is a personal homage to owner Andrew Dickinson’s grandad, Jim, who had a soft spot for humbugs.

Both shops carry a traditional Victorian vibe, complete with wooden shelves, glass jars, old fashioned toys and even a children’s steam train for authenticity.

Sweet Memories, Southport

Sweet Memories, in Wayfarers Arcade, stocks a range of more than 220 traditional sweets, displayed in glass jars and weighed out. It stocks a wide range of locally produced chocolates and truffles, traditional carbonated drinks, and more than 25 different types of liquorice from around the world. It also has a range of sugar free sweets.

Pedder Street News, Morecambe

Pedder Street, in Morecambe, was established in 1903 as a newsagent and sweet shop, selling loose sweets. Customers can also buy its best selling ranges online. Selections include mint cakes, bon bons, Lion confectionery, sherbert and chocolate.

Sweet Emporium, Fleetwood and Lancaster

With many shops under the Mr Sweets and Lucky Bags brand, Sweet Emporium, in Freeport, Fleetwood, and St Nicholas Shopping Centre, Lancaster, are popular choices in the Lancashire area,providing plenty of choice.

Each store offers a huge range of sweets and chocolates sold from traditional jars as well as a wide variety of pick and mix. Amongst the goodies are old favourites, as well as the latest novelties.

Sweet Emporium also offers an on line service for those who cannot regularly visit one of its 18 stores.

Chocobella, Chorley

As the name suggest, Chocobella, in Chapel Street, Chorley, specialises in luxury chocolates, which can also be personalised as gifts.

There is plenty of variety, as it also houses traditional and dietary soft and hard sweets, to suit all tastes.

It is also a popular port of call for parties and weddings, as it provides favours and packages for events.

Walking into Chocobella is a delight, as there is a range of bespoke hampers and ornamental and homeware gifts for all occasions.
