£1.5m windmill dream

LYTHAM’S iconic windmill is set to be turned into a prime 21st century attraction.

The Lytham Heritage Group has applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund for the lion’s share of funding for a £1.5 million conversion project.

The group is hoping to be given the go-ahead for the initial stages of a bid for which they would ultimately have to raise £426,000.

The aim is to have the Windmill and adjacent boathouse open as an interactive ultra-modern attraction by the summer of 2014.

If the go-ahead is forthcoming, as well as looking to the public for help in raising the ‘match funding’, the Heritage Group will have to satisfy Heritage Lottery Fund officials that they can establish a network of volunteers to guide the project to the value of £86,650.
