Adults-only show debut a big hit

A CONTROVERSIAL show featuring full front male nudity is on course to be the biggest-selling performance of the season so far at Lytham’s Lowther Pavilion.
Puppetry of the Penis, which has played in theatres all over the world since originating in Australia in 1997, makes its Lowther debut tomorrow evening – and is heading towards a sellout at the 457-capacity venue.
As the Express went to press, ticket sales were slightly behind those for the show by Lytham comedienne Jenny Eclair last month but, with substantial late sales and ‘walk-ups’ anticipated, management fully expect it to be the biggest hit of the year so far.
When the show, which has proved popular at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre, came to Leamington Spa in 2011, it was labelled ‘highly obscene and in very poor taste’ by a local councillor.
Amid the brisk sales at Lowther, however, some members of the audience are travelling a considerable distance to see the show, which is on a national tour.
Tim Lince, acting manager at Lowther and also acting chairman of the managing Lowther Trust, said: “It is certainly proving popular and we are delighted with ticket sales.
“It doesn’t mean we have something saucy on the bill every season but I think you have to keep challenging the audience and catering to all tastes and we pride ourselves on offering something for everyone.”
