CRY health screening places still available

More than 200 young people are set to be given free health screenings later this month - thanks to the latest fund-raising drive by Lytham St Annes Lions and the generosity of hundreds of swimmers and their sponsors.

Funds raised at the 30th annual swimarathon event organised by Lytham St Annes Lions earlier this year topped £15,000, allowing the Lions to invite the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) charity to host a weekend of screenings locally for the second year running.

They will take place at Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College on Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 and with CRY having agreed to carry out 230 screenings over the two days, there are still some slots available, mainly on the Sunday.

A record total of 58 teams took part in the swimarathon held at St Annes YMCA Pool in January and in addition to the screenings, the proceeds from the event have allowed the Preston-based Heartbeat to provide a comprehensive one day PSHE workshop for every primary school in Lytham St Annes, Warton, Freckleton, Kirkham, Wesham and Wrea Green.

The CRY health screenings cover the age range 14 to 35 and a Lions spokesman said: “We were delighted with the success of the swimarathon and are so grateful to everyone who took part and the sponsors.

“The take up of screening slots so far shows what a vital service is being provided by CRY. There are still some slots available but we would advise any interested parents or individuals not to delay as last year there was a sudden influx as the screening days approached.”
