Funding agreed for village regeneration
Coun David Eaves in Ansdell as it was announced �250,000 would be spent on improvements in the village
FYLDE Council has made public plans to redevelop Woodlands Road, Ansdell, making it more accessible for residents and visitors.
The proposals, which stretch from Seymour Road – the road that runs behind the post office – up towards Ansdell Institute, include new street trees, new lighting, the repairing of footways and forecourts, as well as improvements and restorations to buildings with business owner input.
The council has also suggested a garden area outside the Institute, as well as a Richard Ansdell educational ‘trail’, for societies and schools, named after renowned artist Richard Ansdell, who had a home built in the area in 1860.
Plans and funding has been agreed to by Fylde council cabinet, paving the way for the project to start.
Funding for the project has come from the council, Lancashire County Council and money left over from the Open Golf Championship, earmarked for Ansdell.
Fylde Council leader Coun David Eaves said: “Ansdell is possibly the fourth largest area, after St Annes, Lytham and Kirkham, in Fylde.
“It has a very popular high street and a lot of elderly people live in the area.
“There is a post office, lots of trading shops, Booths Supermarket and of course the railway station.
“However, it has fallen behind other areas of the Fylde in recent years and needs to be brought into the 21st century.
“I am delighted the plans have been agreed to by members of the cabinet.
“We hope to have a short consultation phase with residents and business owners before work starts in late February on the project.
“Pictures of the proposals will be on display at Ansdell Library, Commonside, for residents to see.”
