St Annes will stage an international food festival in August to coincide with the Olympic Games – and the aim is for it to be just the appetiser as the St Annes Enterprise Partnership (STEP) group of traders and businessmen aims to put the town’s range of culinary delights on the map.

The Festival is the result of public consultations held last year and St Annes Town Council’s enterprise and promotions officer and STEP facilitator Darrel Treece-Birch said: “It was clear from the consultations that several ideas and themes kept reoccurring.

“One of those common threads was the variety of food we have in the town and there is a clear opportunity to showcase the culinary delights we have on offer.

“St Annes has at least 17 restaurants, 16 cafes, several pub restaurants plus all our hotels which also provide food and drink.

“Within that group there are cuisines from the countries such as China, Britain, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico. Morocco, Russia, Thailand and Turkey. We have high quality chefs in town and they are more than capable of producing varied menus from many other countries.

“The idea is really to showcase the town’s wide offering of food and drink establishments, and more importantly to encourage locals and visitors to ‘try out’ the plethora of dishes available.”

The first St Annes International Food Festival is set to run from August 5 to 21 and Darrell added: “We are still in the preparatory stages so there is still a fair amount of detail to be added but we hope to make this an annual event. The Partnership aims to supply all of the participating businesses with a vinyl window sticker.”
