Ben Trend Ultra Challenge 2013 l-r Matt Wilkinson, Mark Evans, Aodhan Carson and Jeavon Trend

EVER wanted to run a marathon?

For the unaware, it’s 26.2 miles of pain, blood, sweat and tears.

But these four marathon men, will run further than that – more than five times the distance in fact.

Aodhan Carson, Matt Wilkinson, Mark Evans and Jeavon Trend will each run the equivalent of 130 miles, non-stop, for two days, from London to the Fylde coast.

Called the Ben Trend Ultra Challenge, the foursome want to raise thousands of pounds for the Ben Trend Get Involved Foundation, named after the former Fylde RUFC player who died tragically in 2010.

Ben’s younger brother, Jeavon, said the run will be a huge test of endurance: “We have not yet finalised the route, but I believe it’ll be upwards of 260 miles.

“We’ll run in pairs, me running with Mark, and Matt with Aodhan.

“We’ll run 10 miles at a time, on off, on off, all the way from Wimbledon in London to Fylde Rugby Club. It is a huge challenge.”

Ben, a 30-year-old personal fitness trainer who grew up in Marton and attended Arnold School, drowned while on holiday with his wife Verena in South Africa.

He was a passionate endurance sport competitor and competed in marathons in Paris, Rome, Dublin, Auckland, Blackpool and Edinburgh, as well as the Marathon des Sables, a 151-mile race through the Sahara desert in six days.

The foundation hopes to raise £100,000 by the end of 2013 and currently has just under £50,000. Aodhan, Matt, Mark and Jeavon will raise money for individual charities and causes, as well as Ben’s foundation.

Mark, a teacher at ArnoldKEQMS School, added: “We are not even sure if we can complete the challenge as anything and everything could and will go wrong from injuries, to dehydration, to the lack of sleep, and to not being able to take in enough calories.

“A rough estimate is that each of us will burn approximately 25,000 calories in the 48 hours. That’s more than 12 days food!”

The challenge starts at 9am on Friday, August 2, with the team hoping to arrive at the rugby club around 9am on Sunday, August 4.
