New chapter for top Fylde pub

A POPULAR publican has made the move to Lytham’s most famous pub.
Steve Norris, 50, has taken over the reins from Ian Rigg at The Taps pub, Henry Street.
The former landlord of The Shovels in Common Edge Road, Marton, made the move after a recommendation by departing Ian.
Moving with wife Helen, 50, he said he is eager for the challenge.
Steve added: “I can’t wait to get going to be honest.
“I’ve had 16 very good years at the Shovels pub – really there was no reason for me to leave unless an opportunity like this came up.
“I wouldn’t say Ian’s retirement was the right timing as such, after all it feels like he has been here 100 years, but the chance came up and I just couldn’t refuse.
“I know a lot of people had applied for the position and I am extremely pleased to take over the pub.
“The Taps has done fantastically well. For a pub its size it has done brilliantly to sell the amount of cask ales it has and I hope to keep the good work going.”
Steve added that although no drastic changes are planned, he hopes to keep the pub moving with the times.
He added: “With me arriving, it presents a fantastic opportunity to move onwards and upwards.
“We have one or two irons in the fire, we won’t be doing anything too drastic, like painting the walls pink, but it is more about bringing the pub into the 21st century.”
Steve added his main aim is to export his passion for real ale to his new customers.
He said: “That’s something that’s always been my main passion in pubs.
“I love not only drinking it but selling it. It’s becoming more prominent and more dominant now and what I’m trying to do is open it up to younger people and women.
“The old-fashioned theory behind cask ale is it’s an old man’s drink, but nothing is further from the truth.
“There’s so much variety in cask ale, it’s very exciting and my intention is to open up that market to the masses.”
“For customers it will be more of the same and now we just look onwards and upwards.”
