THE new town clerk for St Annes has been revealed.

Sally Taylor, of Blackpool Coastal Housing, has been confirmed by St Annes Town Council to replace Philip Jackson, who retires in May.

Mrs Taylor, who has worked for Blackpool Council in several roles and lives in Ansdell, said it was an exciting job that she was looking forward to.

She added: “The reason that the job attracted me was that it asked for someone with get up and go, and I feel I could make a difference.

“I am very positive, enthusiastic, and determined to work with communities and businesses.

“I am all about local services for local people – I’m very much into that.

“Philip Jackson has done so much already as town clerk and I’m looking forward to continuing his good work.”

Questions had been raised in February when the role was advertised, with some Fylde councillors surprised at the £30,000 salary for the position, but outgoing town clerk Philip Jackson said Mrs Taylor was the “ideal” person for the job: “She was simply the best candidate for the role.

“We had 10 applications and interviewed four people. She is ideal for the role.

“She has experience in local government, having worked at the democratic services department at Blackpool Council as well as acting as a census area manager.

“She is currently working for Blackpool Coastal Housing as part of the project to demolish several high-rise flats in Layton.

“She also lives local in Ansdell and knows the area well. She will start the position on April 2 and there will be a handover period until I leave on May 14.

“It will be a different world for me having worked for so many years, but no doubt my wife will have a lot of jobs for me.”

St Annes Town Council Mayor Coun Angela Jacques added: “Sally is very enthusiastic, focused on her job and highly qualified in all aspects of administration and I am sure will be a real asset to the council and to the town.

“Philip has done a wonderful job but Sally’s arrival in a full-time capacity will signal the start of an exciting new era.”
