Town is judged third best in world to live

LYTHAM is the third best town with a population under 20,000 in the world – and it's official.

That’s according to judges at this year’s LivCom awards where the Fylde town came in third place in its category out of seven shortlisted entrants.

A team representing the local council and community gave a 40 minute presentation about Lytham, which was broadcast on the Internet on livcom TV.

It included details of the town’s natural heritage, its wealth of community activity and examples of environmentally sensitive practices.

It also discussed Lytham In Bloom’s recent success in the regional and national In Bloom competitions.

The objective of The LivCom Awards is to encourage best practice, innovation and leadership in providing a vibrant, environmental community that improves the quality of life for residents.

Fylde Council Chief Executive Phil Woodward said: “This really was a fantastic event, with opportunities to meet with local authorities from across the globe, to share problems and solutions and to learn that we really are not very different from one another.

“We are delighted that the judges rated our presentation and the town of Lytham, which really is a very special place to live.”

Coun Tim Ashton said: “We are now respected across the world. Delegates from big towns in America told me how great our presentation and the work we were doing was.”

The community involvement of ParkView 4U was also a shining part of the entry .

Chairperson Cath Powell, who was the third member of the team said: “ParkView 4U is something which is unique and innovative and has come directly from the community itself, showing how we can all work together to make real change.”
