Fylde MP Mark Menzies has spoken in Parliament to praise a local charity which helps ex-offenders avoid returning to a life of crime.

Jobs, Friends & Houses takes people who have struggled with a range of issues - including addiction, mental health problems, offending and homelessness - and gives them work, a positive support network and somewhere to live.

The organisation uses the experience of staff to ensure people avoid the common pitfalls associated with re-offending so that they are able to positively contribute to their community and put back into society.

Mr Menzies spoke about the charity’s positive impact during questions to the Secretary of State for Justice in the House of Commons.

He said: “Jobs, Friends & Houses is an award-winning initiative on the Fylde coast, which provides ex-offenders with real opportunities to work in the building trade.

“Will the Secretary of State join me in congratulating it on its excellent work and seek to support it and other such endeavours in the future?”

The Justice Secretary, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, replied: “I am grateful to my hon. Friend for bringing that fantastic campaign to the attention of the House.”
