The Queensway, at the gateway into St Annes on the back road from Blackpool, will close as a Harvester eaterie next month and re-open in June as a Miller and Carter Steakhouse.

A spokesman for Midlands-based parent company Mitchells and Butlers said the majority of the jobs at the Blackpool Road hostelry would be preserved as The Queensway emulates the former Highcross Harvester at Poulton-le-Fylde.

That opened its doors last autumn after being rebranded as Miller and Carter.

The Mitchells and Butlers spokesman said: “We constantly review our estate and from time to time make the decision to convert a restaurant into one of our other successful brands.

“We can confirm that the Queensway will become a new Miller and Carter steakhouse and will be opening in June.

“The majority of the current team will continue to work at the business following the conversion.”

There are currently around 60 Miller and Carter steakhouses around the country, with three more set to open this month.

The Queensway, previously a Beefeater restaurant and which accommodates more than 200 diners, was the area’s first Harvester when it re-opened after refurbishment in November 2006.

At the time, it was one of 239 restaurants acquired by Mitchells and Butlers from Whitbread in a deal worth £497m.

The change of identity for The Queensway comes as work gets under way in earnest on the Queensway development of more than 1,000 homes just across the road.

A regular customer said: “I was shocked when I heard it was closing because it is always so busy but the new identity certainly sounds exciting.”
