Work is beginning on the next phase of a £50m regeneration project in the heart of Blackpool after the first phase sold out.

A total of 132 houses built at Foxhall Village are now either occupied or reserved for sale meaning a third of the scheme has now been completed.

The site off Rigby Road will see 400 homes built in total, including some leased through Great Places Housing Association.

Rik Faircloth, development manager at Hollinwood Homes which is building the houses, said: “People are seeing that central Blackpool is a good place to live and raise children.

“They can see that something is being created.

“It was a brave project from Blackpool and we can see it is working and starting to change the way the area is viewed.

Visually the scheme is also making an impact and future elements will include improving Foxhall Square and uplifting that area

“Since work began in 2014, we’ve welcomed families, couples, first time buyers and retired people who have all made a house a home here.”

The scheme to transform what was an area of failed guesthouses and rundown buildings is being carried out in partnership with Blackpool Council.

Coun Christine Wright, cabinet member for housing at Blackpool Council, said: “Not only do these new homes provide better accommodation for Blackpool locals but it is completely refreshing an area of town that needed it.

“There are now more than 100 extra families in the South Shore area who can boost the local economies around Central Drive and Lytham Road, spending money, creating jobs and generally improving the fortunes of the area.

“At the same time, we know a lot of Blackpool’s health and social problems are driven by poor quality and unsafe accommodation.

“These new homes are of a high quality for families to live a happy and healthy life where they can contribute to the local town and nearby community.”

The next part of the site to be developed will be land on Rigby Road opposite the Swift Hound pub.
