THE Olympic torch could be on its way to Lytham St Annes.
Fylde civic leaders are hoping that they can convince the organisers of the London Olympics to parade the flame during next summer’s Lytham Club Day.
The torch is coming to Blackpool on Friday, June 22 as the countdown to the games gathers pace
There will be a welcome event hosted on the resort’s new Tower Festival Headland on the Promenade, before the flame continues its 70-day official tour of the UK, heading for Manchester the following day.
Lit in Olympia in Greece, in a traditional ceremony, the flame will arrive in the UK next May before starting a route from Lands End that will end in London on the weekend before the 2012 Games begin.
But Fylde’s MP, Fylde Council and local groups are hopeful they can make a case to convince the organising committee to come to Lytham the following morning to tie in with 2012’s Lytham Club Day.
