A planning application has been lodged with the council seeking permission to convert the building on Queen Street into 25 mainly one-bedroomed apartments.
The property was formerly home to Job Centre Plus before closing around three years ago with the service relocated to the council’s Municipal Buildings on Corporation Street.

But any potential deal stalled because the asking price was considered too high.
It had been hoped to house up to 300 children’s services staff who currently work across three separate sites.
A design brief submitted with the application by Harrogate based Shaw and Jagger Architects says: “The proposed conversion of this three storey office building to form 25 flats will provide a more efficient use of this previously developed site, without compromising spacious and attractive living accommodation within a safe environment.”
