Updated plans to redevelop hotels as new homes on Blackpool’s seafront have been submitted to the council.

Revised proposals show 89 apartments, compared to 92 originally proposed for two sites on New South Promenade, when plans were first revealed in March this year.

A design brief says: “The introduction of this modern apartment block will help to regenerate the Crescent, creating active, compatible and mixed communities along the promenade, in a manner which does not harm the type and nature of holiday accommodation offer which the market demands.”

Both apartment blocks would be four, five and six storeys high with 40 apartments and 45 parking spaces on the south site accessed from Harrowside West, down from 41 originally proposed.

There would be 49 apartments and 49 parking spaces on the north site accessed from South Promenade, down from 51.

While holiday accommodation would be lost, a new hotel was built on this part of the Promenade in 2016 – the 130-bedroom Hampton by Hilton – with work currently underway to add another 74 rooms as part of a £7m extension.

A design statement adds: “As both buildings bookend the New South Promenade Crescent, it is hoped that the development of both ends will provide a strong foundation for the renovation of the South-Shore frontage.”

It goes on: “While the buildings are of a formal design, they are given interest and relate to the promenade, coast, and pleasure beach with curved motifs and refreshing modern design.
